Disadvantages of a Bad Mattress

We have talked about the benefits of a good mattress time and again, and this is something we are pretty vocal about. However, the important thing that we must discuss is the disadvantages of a bad mattress as well. Why? Because a bad mattress can actually make things really difficult for you. The better mattress you have, the good experience you will have with sleep.

Keeping that in mind, in this article, we are going to be looking at some of the issues that you might run into with bad mattresses. After all, talking about the disadvantages does sound like the right way of raising awareness that comes with bad mattresses as well.

If you want to know more about mattresses in general, check

Right now, let’s just have a look at the disadvantages.

It Can Be Painful

You must know that it is important to know that it can be painful if you go with something like a bad mattress. The more you sleep on it, the more painful the experience you will get. That is why it is always better to buy a good mattress and sleep on it so your body does not get stiff.

Health-Related Problems

Lack of proper sleep is directly linked to health issues, and if you are not getting in proper sleep and the reason behind that is a mattress, then you should definitely invest in a good mattress because it will make your experience so much better and you will not have to worry about any health-related issues as far as the mattress is concerned.

These are some of the main disadvantages that you would get from a bad mattress. So, avoiding these issues is good for you on many levels.

Why a Strategy Board Game is The Best Gift For Kids

The general rule for gift giving these days is that the gift that you are planning to give to your child is probably going to be some kind of technological gadget that your child is saying that they definitely need all in all.

While you may think that your kid actually needs something that would allow them to stay on the internet all day long, you as their parent should know a bit better and give them alternatives that would really allow them to access their full potential and make it so that they would be able to excel in pretty much every single thing that they are trying to do.

The thing about the best strategy board games that the world has to offer is that they have a tendency to help with development in a lot of ways. You can give your kid one of these board games and marvel at how its changing your child’s mind and turning it into something that is a little more analytical and sharper all in all, something that is going to be very important in your kid’s future if you genuinely want him or her to become some kind of a success.

The thing is, just because of the fact that you aren’t buying your child a piece of tech doesn’t mean that you are not going to be allowing him or her to have fun. The truth is that any kid can have a lot of fun as long as its not too distracting and as long as it’s not coming from some kind of technological device that is completely taking over their lives and turning into a bit of an obsession all in all.

How to Express Your Personality Online?

This is definitely  the age of social media. More and more people find themselves indulged in it than most things in their lives. It isn’t a bad thing either as it brings people together. It gives people a chance to find like-minded people and bond with them on things that they both like. Tagging them in memes and laughing it off with strangers is somehow the new way of going about. This is why many people often find themselves overthinking about how to caption their pictures. It might sound exaggerated but captions are now taken as expression of self. People express how they were feeling at a particular time when they posted a picture in their captions.

Though, some people do feel differently. This is because they don;;t find enough time to think of captions. Even if they do have time, their minds are so occupied that they fail to creatively think of a caption. But the internet has got these people covered. There are many sites that they have list of captions that people can choose from. They also have categories. People who want to express themselves setter on social media can just hope on to these websites and select whatever they like. Some of these sites have the most badass captions so you won’t be disappointed.

There are different captions for every mood. Some times when people are posting something, they feel funny and so there are captions for that kind of mood. You can post something that goes like, “I never repeat the same mistake twice. I repeat it four or five times” or “The rule for a lazy guy: if you can’t reach it, you don’t need it.” But mostly just post whatever you feel like instead of overthinking it.

How to Do Some Good in The World

Let’s face it, the world is not a very good place at all. There is so much suffering in the world that a lot of us might end up feeling like we don’t have any option but to make it so that we are going to end up experiencing all of that misery all on our own without really having anyone else that would be able to help us in any way shape or form.

The fact of the matter is that if you are living in this world, you need to try and do something or the other to make it a bit better, if not for yourself then for the people that are coming after you.

One way in which you can make the world a slightly better place is by looking into the people that are using dogs and not treating them the right way. Dogs are amazing creatures who give their lives for us in a lot of ways, and the reason that they do so is out of pure love rather than any kind of selfish motivation which is usually why humans end up doing most of the things that we do on a regular basis.

Some dogs that are out on the street are rescued which means that they are taken to a shelter of some sort where they are going to end up being pampered and taken care of for a time. However, after the dog has been cleaned up and healed from any injuries that it might have suffered from, it needs a forever home. You can adopt a rescued dog to give it a good life at long last. Visit Dawgsquad to find out more about how you can adopt a rescued dog.

How to Live The High Life

Of all of the goals that people are usually trying to accomplish on a day to day basis, perhaps the single most pertinent goal involves trying to get a better life for yourself, one that is full of comforts that you had not been able to enjoy before. These comforts can be obtained through a certain amount of hard work and dedication, but this is not to say that you will need to work the rest of your life in order to gain some kinds of comforts that you feel should be easier for you to get a hold of.

Part of living the high life so to speak is having comforts available to use at any given point in time, and this means having them close by. You can always live in apartments that are close to things like basketball courts and tennis courts, but there is no chance that you are going to be able to afford to have such luxuries in your home ready for you to use whenever you desire. This requires an inordinate amount of money, something that you are probably not going to end up earning at any point unless you get very lucky indeed.

This is why you should get mobilio condos instead. Condos have all of the luxuries of the high life at your disposal, ready for you to use whenever the need arises without fail. Good quality condos are not easy to come by, and sometimes people go years without being able to buy one. It is for this reason that you should find ways to bring these condos into your life by doing a rigorous search for available condos in your area. Eventually the market will give way to something that would be of interest to you.

How to Keep Yourself Safe at Home

Home invasions are not all that common, but whenever they do happen they end up being pretty stressful for anyone involved and for good reason. Home invasions are usually quite violent, and people get hurt in the process. Not to mention the fact that you probably have a few valuables in your home that you want to keep safe, valuables that you would not want someone robbing anytime soon.

Several things might also be of personal importance to you, so even if you are not home during the burglary you will not take much solace in your sense of personal safety because of the fact that things that were important to you at a personal level are now gone and you will never really be able to use them ever again.

There are a few things that you can do in order to keep yourself safe at home. Before anything else, find out what locksmiths Birmingham has waiting for you to give them some work and them ask them to change all of your locks. If you are renting a place, make sure that you change the locks so that you can be sure that absolutely no one has a copy of the key that would allow them to enter your home. Previous tenants often have keys that they did not disclose to their landlord, which means that they might just end up getting in without you realizing it.

All in all, in terms of personal safety in a home environment, it’s fair to say that you can never be too careful. You need to take all of the precautions that are available to you, especially if you are thinking about living somewhere for the long term and want to feel safe.

A Book Lover’s Tools

There are two kinds of book readers out there these days; there’s the kind that’s taking advantage of technology and reading their books in PDF and epub formats on their phones and tablets and then there’s there are those of us who still prefer reading physically printed book.

If the smell of a new book’s pages is one of your most favorite things in the world, then chances are that you’re one of the latter kind of book readers. You understand how reading books in a digital format can be very convenient but you just prefer the raw feel of having a book in your hands.

Your books are precious to you and when you’re done with them, you still keep them in your library as part of your collection. Now, not a lot of people still treat printed books with the same amount of respect as you do and this probably ticks you off. Just think about how many times you’ve seen your friends making dog ear folds in their books to mark what page they were on. People do this sort of a thing to make it easier to keep reading from where they left off but this ruins books.

If you’d rather put a sock in between the pages of your book, then maybe it’s time you invested in some bookmarks. If you’re so particular about your books, then why not also start being particular about the kind of bookmarks that you use? At American Students, you’ll find all kinds of cute and witty bookmarks that last quite some time and do justice to your books as well. You could even gift a few to your friends to discourage them from abusing books by making those dreaded folds!

I’m Back Bitches!

I haven’t updated this blog in forever.  I think it’s because I really have no niche so to say so I just kept putting it off because I’m fucking random so, the blog has been.  Well, random or not, I’m back and shall continue with the randomness.  *shrugs*  Go with what you know right?

2015 was a weird and wild year for me.  It was my first year in many during which I did not require surgery for my endometriosis (since 2007 I think I’ve had at least 6 surgeries for it, some twice in a year) so it was weird not having to plan downtime or sessions around my recovery.  I outed a photographer on my other blog, Photo Stealers, and that was an adventure to say the least.  My business was steady with sessions and weddings but overall it was down from the years prior.  Luckily though, 2016 is on track to be the best year yet for my business.  I traveled, of course, and found a new favorite destination in St. John.  I took a few girls trips as well and I have decided that this needs to be a yearly thing.   Overall 2015 was a good year but by New Years I was ready to say goodbye to it.

During my downtime this season I’ve thought about what to do with this blog.  To nuke it?  To totally change it up and go forth with a niche?  There’s so many things I want to write about.  My endometriosis journey.  My travel and places that I love.  BOOKS!  My subscription box addition (I’ve unsubscribed to almost all but PopSugar but I can’t quit it!).  My undying love for all things bath related.  So screw it, I’m going to just be me and write about ALL the things and screw the niche mindset that to be a blogger one must have a cultivated voice and message.  It’s not like I’m ever going to be one of those people anyway – I’m not skinny enough nor do I have enough boots.

So, hi.  If you’re reading this (which I do not know if people still are!) thank you for hanging with me!

PS:  I’ve renamed my blog to something a bit more catchy since the old name was just something grabbed at will.  Yes, I really do hate coffee but yes, I also do love Starbucks.  The cream blended frappuccinos are the best thing ever.

Pop Sugar Must Have May Subscription Box

I feel like the last person to get the Pop Sugar Must Have box this month!  I accidentally fell into a spoiler (I try to avoid them if I can) and wasn’t too excited for the box but now that it’s here I’m a bit happier about it.

The Must Have May Box included the following products for a grand total of $115.00

Smell Bent, St. Tropez scent $45
Zing Anything, Citrus Zinger in green $17
Kerry Cassill, Eye Mask (not pictured because I forgot I took it out of the box), blue floral $24
Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics, nail lacquer in Pool Boy $10
Must Have Fitness, Tone it Up! $15
Hi I’m Skinny Sticks, Sweet Onion $4

I’m not listing it with the rest (but it’s in the picture) but I received a vbeaute’ Lip Spread Anti-Aging Lip Gloss($19)  along with my May box as an apology for how long the Resort box took to ship.  I don’t know what is in these types of lip stuff but generally I get blisters from them (got it from the Julep one and the Jouer kind).  I’m going to try it and see what happens because I’m a glutton for punishment (and I LOVE my lip gloss!).

I immediately sprayed the St. Tropez and I am still on the fence on if I like it or not.  I do but it’s pretty strong.  We’ll see what I think of it as it mellows out.  I’ve received the zinger thing before and it got banished to a closet and I’ve not seen it since.  I like the idea of it but actual DOING is a different ballgame sometimes LOL.  I will toss the eye mask in with my travel stuff, they can come in handy when traveling!  The polish is OK but I hate creme polishes so this will probably hit the donation bag.  I always aspire to do the workout stuff but rarely DO it so we’ll see on the DVD.  I’ve had some flaring of the endometriosis this week (fun!) so I’m not really in the active mood right now.  I’m allergic to onions so I won’t be able to try the skinny sticks (sad!) but I’m betting my husband will chow them down.

Pop Sugar Must Have Resort Special Edition

It’s been a while hasn’t it??  Crap.  I suck at blogging.  I think I feel bad because this blog doesn’t have a “focus” or a “niche” really and it’s just me spitting out random shit at people.  Since I couldn’t figure out my focus, I just abandoned it.  I’m going to try to get back into the swing of things and embrace my non-niche-ness.  I’m getting back on the wagon with a post about one of my favorite things, beauty boxes!   I’m starting off with the Pop Sugar Must Have Resort Special Edition.  I have a love/hate relationship with the Special Edition boxes from Pop Sugar.  I really liked last Summer’s box so I was hoping for the best with this one.  I’m still kind of meh on it.  Their monthly boxes are also hit or miss but April’s box was out of the park awesome (I loved it so much I didn’t pause for a picture before diving in).

The Must Have Summer Box included the following products for a grand total of ~ $476.50.

Sisco Berluti Bracelet Stack, Pop Sugar Exclusive ~$176
RB of McD Clutch, Tan and Navy ~$150
Cuyana Turkish Towel, blue and white $55
Epicuren Tropical Lave ~ $37
Clark’s Botanicals Cellular Moisture Mist $28
Smashbox Santigolden Age Double-Ended Limitless Eye Liner, yellow/blue $24
Salty Road Salt Water Taffy, Salty Caramel Apple $6.50

I had to guess on some values due to the sites being down or the item being an exclusive (clutch, bracelet).  It’s one of the higher valued boxes I think Pop Sugar has ever released but it doesn’t make my joy level rise really.  The towel was the teaser item that they used to bait people with when advertising the box and I’m OK with it.  I’m not really sure how one would really use it though – it doesn’t seem very towel like, it’s too big to be a scarf and too thin to be a blanket.  It’s a odd item for sure.  Maybe I’m just not fancy enough for it?  The bracelet stack I like and I’m so glad it’s not Bauble Bar or Style Mint.  THANK GOD!  The clutch came in two colors and I think both are OK, the leather is like butter and is amazingly soft.  I’m not sure I’ll really use it though but I’ll have a think on it before I decide what to do with it.  The tropical lave smells AMAZING.  I love everything Epicuren I’ve received so far and I’m sure this will be enjoyable.  I love all bath products!  The cellular mist is OK but the tingling is WEIRD.  We shall see if it makes me break out in hives or not.  The eye liner is what I absolutely HATE from this box.  I’m too old for bright blue or yellow eyeliner.  I want to try the taffy but I am supposed to avoid all soy (I have endometriosis) so I’m really bummed.  Maybe I’ll just try a small piece.  Sigh.

NKOTB Cincinnati After Party Epic Fail

Jordan Knight in Cincinnati 6/25/13 © Corey Ann Balazowich

I don’t even know where to begin with this one, I really don’t.  I am writing this blog because SO MANY people keep asking me WTF happened last night and Twitter’s character limit just can’t contain it all.

I’m a huge NKOTB fan, if you know me, you know this.  Even still, people from elementary school remember my epic crush on Joe (I just can’t with the Joey LOL) and ask me on Facebook if I “know” that they are back together and touring.  I’ve met them a few times and while there’s always bumps in the road when it comes to meet and greets and after parties, nothing has ever been an epic of a fail as this, to the point where I’m being a bitch and writing a blog about it.

Last night I attended the NKOTB “The Package” Tour concert in Cincinnati, which is a 4 + hour drive for me in my home base of North Canton, Ohio.  Generally I go to the Cleveland concerts but I had obligations that day and the Cincy date worked out best for my friends and I.  We had front row seats and had an absolute blast during the show, which is amazing and I highly recommend to all women from the 90’s.  I will smile for a long time due to memories from that show.  What wasn’t so great was the insane heat in the arena, which is not remotely anyone’s fault but the US Bank Arena, but it was beyond hot.  I went to a concert a few years ago at Blossom, which was 90 something degrees and a million percent humidity but it was cooler than this!  I heard that the a/c units broke down due to the heat outside but I can’t say for sure that’s what happened.  Still, despite being a hot and sweaty mess, we still had so much fun because of what a fantastic show that Boyz II Men, 98 Degrees (ironic, no?), and New Kids On the Block put on for us.  It was especially special because it was 98 Degrees hometown show and Drew Lachey’s family was right in front of us and it was utterly charming to watch his little kiddos watch Daddy on stage and be completely enthralled with the experience.

I had purchased After Party tickets for me and my 2 friends because I wanted to go and I wanted to surprise my friends with the gifts.  They were SO excited and it was one girl’s birthday and she cried when she realized what my text meant. Neither had ever met any of the New Kids and were SO excited to go to the After Party.  We all knew the pictures would be fast and NOT a meet and greet but we were looking forward to the mingling and fun of the After Party which from all other reports, was a great time.  We got checked in after the concert and waited in line and quickly found out that the humidity in the room was worse than anything in the arena but we purchased some waters ($3.75 a pop, told none was available from the tap for free) and prepared for a fun evening dancing and enjoying some hopeful “facetime” with Donnie and maybe a straggling New Kid or two.  We were happy to hear that Donnie, Danny, Joe and Jordan were in attendance along with Boyz II Men.

The picture line moved quickly and we were told to get into groups of 4 or more and we ended up with 6 in our group, which was fine because no one was too particular about who they were with.  When it was our time to go, we were shoved in, found a spot, smiled and said a quick hi to whomever we were by and left.  That’s what we expected though so it was what it was, I do not have a single iota of an issue with how the picture taking went.  We were more looking forward to the mingling afterwards with Donnie and just having fun.  After the line was over, Donnie took the stage and begged us to all take a step back from the end where the “stage” area was with DJ Cheapshot and make sure everyone had breathing room b/c he didn’t want anyone to get sick and how he would be around to everyone so don’t rush in.  Joe got up and did a toast to everyone and a few other “Joe-isms.”  Shawn finished out the speeches with something I couldn’t hear but more about just having fun and not trying to all turn into a mob rushing them.  All three led us to believe they were going to be mingling and so long as we didn’t act a fool, they’d be around to us all.  We were towards the back so it was hard to see.  The next song I saw Jordan shaking his groove to barely through the crowd and then I just had fun in my corner assuming they were saying hi to people and just not visible.  Then I realized I didn’t see any men during the next song and stood up on a chair to figure out what was going on and then I realized there was NO men (well the men we paid to party with).  Donnie was gone – everyone was gone.  There was a curtain to the side of the “stage” where people were coming in and out of but never to come back out?  Donnie and the rest of the crew.

Here’s the thing: I get it was a swamp in that hot box of a room.  I get that only Donnie is on the party as the host and therefore the only one obligated to be there.  If I were the other guys, I’d probably have peaced out too.  Jonathan is a wise man.  Hell, I am JEALOUS they didn’t have to stay in that sauna for an additional 2 hours like we did because that was really miserable.  I still have a headache.  However as the host, I really wish Donnie would have given us the respect to let us know that they were miserable, exhausted and just couldn’t do the party as they’d hoped.  Heck, if he wasn’t man enough to do it without fear of lynching, send out some paid minion to tell us what was going on.  Instead we waited for two hours in that soup – the a/c was broken is the rumor – for guys that left not long after the pictures were completed.  People were getting headaches, people were not feeling well and water was not cheap.  Donnie, why in the world did you leave us up there on false hopes when you KNEW the conditions up there?  I just do not get it.  Johnny kept telling people they were coming back so everyone stayed on, until the bitter and quiet end where DJ Cheapshot ended his tunes and started silently cleaning up.  Not a single word from anyone as to what the ever loving fuck just happened.  Ironically, I think our “party” was one of the latest ones, ending around 1:45AM.

Shit happens, it’s kind of a motto in my life.  It was proven when after that epic failure of an After Party I walked out into a thunderstorm and had to walk back to our hotel in the pouring rain (it did feel good but that whole lightning thing is a bit freaky).  After sleeping on the whole mess I woke up less angry, more confused and laughing about the whole situation because this stuff only seems to happen to me.  It’s kind of humorous in a dark and demented way.  I should have known better than to hope for anything less than a total shitshow.  At least the concert was fun!

My friends and I consoled ourselves on the ride home by saying at least we had fun with each other and the pics were still a highlight, no matter what happened.

I’m the literal hot mess in the blue dress on the end (in my defense the wet spots on my dress are from ice cubes I realize now that cooling down via that method was not one of my wiser choices in life), one of my friends is the girl in yellow next to Donnie.  My other friend?  She’s next to Danny.  Don’t see Danny?  He was on my left… and him AND my friend were cut out of the image. I’ve edited this picture for clarity FYI if you want to see how bad image originally was and the other images are, go here and type in nkotbappix for the password.  Also, if you are an attendee and want me to try and edit yours, let me know.

Needless to say, I’m pretty peeved.  Not only is the picture terrible due to the humidity, MY FRIEND IS MISSING.  This isn’t the only person from the night that was cropped out, there are a few others this appears to have happened to last night.  I feel so terrible for her and so sorry this happened.  I got her this birthday gift hoping it would be a fun night.  I called VIP Nation to complain and they told me to “send it in email” and hung up on me.  So I sent my email but here’s my blog to go along with it.  This is unacceptable and just sad.  I would like a refund and I think that all attendees last night deserve one as well.

Were you a fellow comrade in sweat?  If so, I am so sorry this happened.  🙁

If you’d like to see my photos from the concert, here is the opening acts and here is NKOTB.

The Pintester Movement

I can’t even recall how I ended up over at Pintester but when I did I pretty much fell instantly in love.  It’s exactly the kind of blog I would have if I were to do one solely based on what happens when you make things from Pinterest.  Because we all know that rarely do they turn out as advertised – usually ending with a lot of swearing.  I love the swearing and Cocknails. This week she asked everyone to attempt ONE pin that has been on your Pinterest for a while and blog about the experience, calling it The Pintester Movement.  I decided this was the perfect time to finally give one of these pins a whirl and see what happens.  I hit up my “Tips and Tricks” board because that is usually where the epic fails beyond food reside and I wasn’t let down.  I can’t be the only one that hoped a “this will save you HOURS of time and is so easy” pins really work can I?  Since I was feeling a wee bit lazy, I decided to try this pin about a super easy way to clean your microwave.

I knew this was going to be interesting when I saw that the site had no more instructions and I had to rely on the words with the picture. However, it didn’t seem like it would blow up and it looked easy to test.

Of course, while I thought I had a cup of vinegar I didn’t, I had a little over a half cup. Crap. So I did a 50/50 ratio with what I had. Please excuse our groutless tile, someday my husband may actually get on that.

I decided to still roll with the 10 minutes from the pin.

10 minutes later…

Yeah, not a whole not of difference right? While things were a bit steamy there really wasn’t a huge amount of steam. I got out my paper towels and wiped down what I could but there wasn’t a huge improvement.

f nothing else I guess this pin won since it got me this far I decided to actually do it for real and finally cleaned out the icky goo.

Make sure you head on over to see what other people have done with their own Pinterest challenges on The Pintester Movement!

Ipsy Glam Bag: May

By far my favorite of all the beauty boxes is the Ipsy Glam Bag, especially for the price of $10!  Each month you get 5 samples in a cute makeup bag that’s usually themed for the month.  I’m getting so many makeup bags that I’m not sure what to do with them all (anyone have any ideas?) but they are pretty darn cute.  So far the products have been really spot on as well and not nearly as many biffs and misses as Birchbox (who finally did send me the rest of my samples BTW).

The Ipsy May Bag included the following products for a total value of $38.68
Juice Beauty Reflecting Lip Gloss, Fig $15.00
Zoya Nail Polish, Blu $8
Nume Finishing Serum, $4.83
Yaby Concealer Refill, Buff $4.85
Pacifica Bronzing Body Butter, $6

I love lip gloss so the Juice gloss is a win, even though the texture is a bit strange.  I am a HUGE Zoya fan so was excited to see they were in this months bag but creme colors aren’t my thing and I’m not sure I’m loving this light blue, I may send it on to someone else who will love it more but it’s still a win in my book.  I’ve got the Nume serum before and it works so that’s a-ok.  I used the concealer the other day and was happy to find it matched my skintone perfectly and I was able to toss it in the Glam RX thing from last month’s bag so it isn’t just floating around aimlessly in my bag.  I heart Pacifica and am looking forward to trying the body butter and seeing if it works, although from what I can tell it’s just shimmer and not a lot of color.  I also REALLY liked this months bag and am hoping to find some kind of use for these suckers in the days to come (shall search Pinterest).

Subscription Box: Julibox (February)

Oh, have you heard about my most favorite monthly subscription box yet?????  If not, hold onto your hats because it’s a doozie!

A few months ago I stumbled onto this one when it was in its second month.  I honestly wasn’t sure if it was going to last but so far I’ve loved every month, even if some aren’t my cuppa so to speak.  So, what is this thing of goodness of which I speak?  Julibox is a monthly subscription box with two different cocktails and most of the fixings each month.  You read that right, COCKTAILS TO YOUR DOOR!  If you are like me, I like my cocktails but I’m so woefully ignorant of any cocktail to order when at an open bar that isn’t vodka and cranberry juice.  Which is fine but sometimes you want to change it up a bit.  The Julibox has been amazing for that and the bonus is that I am trying drinks I’d never tried before.  So far my biggest surprise hits have been the Magi Sour and the Polish Mule.  This month I think is going to be my favorite yet as it includes bubbly!!!!  Have I mentioned what a sucker I am for bubbly??  I can’t wait to get my hands on some strawberries and I think that will be my drink the night of my birthday!  I’m going to try the French 75 before that though, I can’t wait that long to dig in.

The details:

What:  Julibox
When:  Monthly (mid month)
Cost:  $40/month
Includes:  Alcohol and some fixings for 2 drinks of each of the 2 cocktails of the month.  Generally includes everything but juice, fresh ingredients and items on hand (i.e. sugar).
The Good:  COCKTAILS!!!!!!!
The Not-So-Good:  Cost is a bit high and it’s not a value box like some of the others but IMHO it’s worth it to try new drinks. You also have to be on site to sign.
Referral Bonus:  None.  Probably has something to do with the alcohol thing.

Pop Sugar Must Have Box: October

It’s another busy month for me, so I fail at blogging epically.  Whoops!  I’ve been what seems like around the world this month with a wedding, lots of portrait sessions and a trip to Canada and back.  Whew!  October isn’t done yet and I hear we’re ending it with a snowstorm.  Cue the whining from all!  😉

I have been mad stalking my shipment of this month’s Pop Sugar Must Have Box after the delightful surprise last month.  I was kind of worried because I heard some complainers saying this one stunk compared to last months but I was very happy with mine when I opened it (I avoided spoilers because I’m weird like that).  I actually may have wooped a little and done a jig.  While I realize that the Pop Sugar Must Have Box is a bit more than most boxes at $40 or so a month (use REFER5 for $5 off!) I feel OK with it since I LIKE everything in it for two months in a row.  Lately with Birchbox, I’ve been lucky to like even one thing in it.  I keep meaning to pull the plug but I wanted to find something to fill its place.  I’ve also signed up for Ipsy and so far I love it more than Birchbox so I may finally be kicking that habit. I may have added a few other boxes in my quest like the Julibox (COCKTAILS!!), Glossybox and Julep Maven.  I’ll be adding those to the reviews now that I have time to actually breathe with my job (well, when I get them).  I also plan to start throwing in more book reviews!  🙂  Yes, this blog is a mixed bag, just like me.  Ha!

Back to the Must Have box… while it doesn’t have the high value that last month’s had, it’s still awesome and I loved it a lot.

The October box included the following products for a total value of $121.44 (listed in order of excitement)

J.K. Rowling – The Casual Vacancy Hardback Book $35
OPI Pink of Hearts 2012  $14.95
Red Flower Japanese Peony Petal Topped Candle $38
Clear Scalp & Hair Therapy 3 oz Shampoo & Conditioner $3
Dylan’s Candy Bar Gummy Bears $4
Pirates Booty Aged White Cheddar $1.50
Crescent Moon ExerSocks $24.99

I’m a huge reader and although I’ve not read Harry Potter (yes I know), I am excited somewhat to read this new book by JK Rowling.  Since it’s free, I’m definitely giving it a whirl.  I’m OPI-obsessed so the Pink of Hearts is fantastic and straight up my alley, and since I didn’t have to donate to the Komen fund (I support cancer charities, just not Komen) I’m happy to be given it.  The candle smells AMAZING but I definitely wouldn’t buy it at near $40 for that small of a candle!  The shampoo & conditioner is perfect for me since I have long and thick hair – it’s NEVER fun to get the tiny samples b/c I need more than that to wash my hair!  The gummy bears look divine shall  be munching on those during trick or treat!) and the Pirates Booty does too.  The socks are… socks.  I’ll wear them but probably not buy them again.  Unless they totally wow me breathless.  I’ll come back and update with reviews of each items as I use them 🙂

Authors Behaving Badly: How I Pissed Off Legions of Emily Giffin Fans

I am a reader. I read a LOT. I read so much that I am in Amazon Vine and I’ve often passed up pretty awesome gadgets and gizmos so that I could get a copy of a favorite authors new book. One of those such books was Where We Belong by Emily Giffin. I read this while on vacation and enjoyed the read but didn’t love it. For me, the works since Something Borrowed/Something Blue have not reached the bar set by those works (especially Something Blue) however I did appreciate that this novel did not glorify cheating, which the majority of her other works do. I handed the book off to friends to read during the trip and we all agreed that it was a decent beach-esque read. I now regret urging others to read this novel.

Around the time of the launch of the book, Emily had started posting and tweeting people urging them to buy her book to make her number one. The first post kind of annoyed me because it made the fans seem like they were not good enough if she couldn’t reach #1, then her follow up post when finding out she was in fact #2 was equally as awful. She had another post or two lamenting about it on her Facebook and on her Twitter and it frankly annoyed me to the point of commenting to friends that it was pretty diva like behavior and that there seemed to be an epidemic of crying over being second place (the Olympics were taking place at the same time). It really turned me off and I was already starting to be sorry I had reviewed her book for Amazon and possibly helped even one person decide to purchase this novel.

This week, I noticed in my feed a link pop up to her Facebook talking about her husband being in a comment war against a reviewer on Amazon and how it wasn’t a 5 star review.  I don’t know why, but the whole idea of authors or people acting on their behalf (and I consider a spouse to also represent the author) and attacking reviewers make me ill.  Perhaps it’s because I am a part of Amazon Vine (have been since 2007) but I take reviews seriously.  I’ve thankfully (up until now!) never had to deal with an author attack due to my less than perfect review but I’ve been reading more and more cases of this happening online.  I rolled my eyes and shook my head and continued on with my work.  Then a following post appeared talking about how her husband was still at it, as if the first post didn’t get enough attention.  At this point I decided to head over to see what the heck kind of review could start this kind of nonsense.

Well… that doesn’t seem bad at all, certainly not attacking the author, tearing the book apart or even remotely spiteful. Not at all what I was expecting to see. I then continued to read to see what Emily’s husband had been saying and my jaw hit the proverbial floor.

*screen capture thanks to Book Goggles as it’s since been removed by Amazon*

One should note that the initial reply from Giffin’s husband was the same day as the review and the activity on the page was slow at best until Emily posted the below on her Facebook. She did not link directly to the review (although it was linked in the comments by a few of her fans) but it was pretty easy to find, I did so without difficulty.

Now the claims are that she didn’t know about how awful her fans were being and that she never directed people to Amazon to attack (screen capture of this coming later in the post) but both of these comments got me to go looking for the review as well as many other fans.  Many I should note on her FB page were telling her this wasn’t a good idea and she should delete her posts, so not everyone was raising their proverbial pitchforks against the reviewer but one quick look at the comments on the review showed that an overwhelming amount of people were saying pretty awful things against this legitimate review.

At this point I had had enough.  I couldn’t stand the thought of the fact that my review could even get one person to buy her book so I decided to change the review.  I’ve done so in the past when my mind has changed on a product or book and never have had an issue with this in the least.  I changed my review from 4 to 1 star and stated why I did.  The novel was okay but I couldn’t in good faith support an author whom supports the kind of behavior that was going on with the initial 1 star review.  Since this item was a Vine product, I can’t simply delete the review.  I hit save and figured that while I was only one person, at least I’m not longer supporting an author whom encourages this kind of behavior from her husband and fans.

The first few comments surprised me – I didn’t think about my review being seen but I had forgotten about Emily pointing people to the one starred reviews, which would mean that mine would come up. Crap. I then went and looked at the comments on the other low starred reviews and saw that already her fandom was attacking. I girded my loins and prepared for it to get ugly but initially, the support was mostly positive. Then someone must have alerted Emily to the post as I was shocked to see my review pop up in my Facebook feed being blasted by Emily.

In the comment section, they were pretty quick to find my review and post it and the shitstorm on my review comment page ensued. Granted, Emily did sort of attempt to call off the dogs but in the same respect she also pointed out my review and posted her feelings on my changing the rating (again, from 4 not 5 stars) which she is entitled to. If she didn’t encourage bullying though, she would have deleted my review being linked on her page immediately like she did with any comments that supported her. By this point there were a few people saying this needed to quit and the comments her fans were leaving were quite horrible. At this point Emily’s assistant decided to jump in and defend Emily as well leaving quite a few comments that were pretty shocking coming from someone that represents the author on a professional level.

This is just one of many comments that Katie left on my review (all she or Amazon has deleted). However, at this point there were still quite a few people thinking that it was pretty crappy what was going on and supporting me and my right to my opinion on the book. Then more crap hit Emily’s Facebook.

*screen capture thanks to Pocketful of Books as it has since been deleted*

Personally there is no way that a 1 star review falls under my category of “most unfair things” but I guess that she should consider herself blessed for leading such a charmed life. Here Emily directly is linking to my review with her assistants plea for fans to comment and defend her against “these” attacks. Personally, I don’t view my review as attacking the author so much as stating my opinion but I gather that is subjective so I’ll take the “attack” hit. However, the initial review by AvidReader does not remotely come close to attacking Emily in the least. With a battle cry like this, Emily’s fans got even more rabid in their attacks against me and her assistant (CrimznTider) continued to do battle. Most of these have been deleted by Amazon.

So now I’m a stalker, bigot and an infant. There’s more mudslinging but I think this gives you the overall tone of the kind of comments that I was receiving from the fans of Ms. Giffin after she posted on her Facebook a link to my review. There was also tweets from her account as well regarding this.

*screen capture thanks to Pocketful of Books as it has since been deleted*

Finally about 2 or so hours after this whole debacle started, Emily finally attempted to call the dogs off on Facebook.

In short order her husband also offered up his apology to me on my review, I did not see this placed on AvidReader’s review however and she’s the one that truly deserves it.

FINALLY! Although the apology is not perfect but I appreciated him finally apologizing and it did seem to slow (NOT STOP) the attacks on Amazon. At this time Emily’s assistant finally stopped her postings as well. Around 11:00PM I received 3 different calls, all blocked, with one leaving a “delete your review!” voicemail and the second stating that I should just kill myself for being such a miserable person for attacking poor Emily. REALLY? And yes, I’m talking with the cops about this already. I mean that’s Misery kind of fan territory. Not long after I heard a loud bang on my deck and I was legitimately scared that it was a gunshot. Far fetched maybe but this was quickly sinking into WTF territory.

I went to bed last night shaking my head and completely baffled and amazed at what a turn this whole day took. When I woke up I decided to check Emily’s Facebook page to see if she’d posted any sort of apology or whatnot but I found this instead.

I just… I don’t… WHAT?  She has also deleted all of her postings regarding the reviews, which is probably a good thing on her end.  I can’t say that I’ve enjoyed this remotely and it’s pretty unfathomable that you would even begin to entertain the idea that someone would ENJOY the shitstorm I’ve endured over the past day.  For the record, Emily posted a link to my review directly asking for people to come support the attack against her.  That’s not saying gang up but it was all but spelled out

Here’s hoping this dies a quiet death.  I for one will never read another Giffin novel and I am happy to hear that others are doing the same.

Pipe dreams, they are lovely things to have aren’t they?  The only apology I have received from her camp is on my review, she has not reached out to me other than on that platform and that was her husband, not her, unless the account really is hers.  Again, I don’t deserve what happened to me because I dared to change a review.  I also will not be bullied into changing or deleting my review because that’s what Emily thinks is best.  If she didn’t want the drama to continue, she would stop making posts such as these. Sure, I’m adding to the fire now by posting these screen caps but damnit, I’m furious.  I think most would be too if they were in my shoes.

I started getting negative comments on this blog post and low and behold, Emily is making vaguebook status updates.  It’s interesting how I am always able to figure it out when things have hit her Facebook when there is an uptick in negative feedback.

Also for those asking, yes I have been to the police station today regarding the voice mails and cyber bullying.

After thinking on this whole disaster this evening, I wondered how I could turn this into something positive.  I wished there was a charity for me to donate books to children that are bullied as a child I always lost myself in books when I was bullied in school.  I still do it as an escape from reality.  Since such a charity doesn’t exist (anyone want to start one?) I’m donating to the Megan Meier Foundation instead.  Megan Meier is the girl who killed herself after being cyber bullied on MySpace, a story which still saddens me.  I donated $614: a dollar for every downvote I received (278 – is that a record?) as well as AvidReader (78) and another dollar for every comment on the review (201 for me, 57 for AvidReader).  Granted, not every comment was bullying but I don’t care to go in and figure it all out as reliving those comments is not an ideal way to spend my evening.

I hope this is the end of this, I really do.

My review has been removed from the book page of Where We Belong.  You can still access it by clicking on the direct link but it is “gone” for all intents and purposes.  I did not do this, it was on Amazon’s end of things.

UPDATE #5 (December 30, 2012)

Ha, you thought it was all done.  Well, it is but I thought that instead of a new blog post, I’d finish up the “resolution” to this whole debacle as well as finally answer the question of what happened to AvidReader.

• Amazon took down my review of Where We Belong completely, however it still counts toward my Vine reviews so I didn’t have to review it again to stay under my percentage goals.  Huzzah.  Although, reviewing it again could have been interesting as I’m sorry but there’s no way on earth that my debacle wouldn’t have influenced my views in the least.  I know some don’t approve but in the same regards I tend to give authors I adore a kinder/better review based on my love of them so IMHO it can go both ways.

• I never had a direct apology in any form from Emily.  The only apology I got was from her publicist, whom did eventually contact me but it wasn’t on her behalf, more or less was trying to get me to take down this blog.  I refused and he was polite about my refusal.  They did release a somewhat public apology in The Atlantic.

• Despite accusations to the contrary, AvidReader is *not* some stalker of Emily Giffin’s, nor a psycho.  Instead she is a college student who used an email she doesn’t check during the school year for her Amazon profile.  When she got home for the holidays and checked her not-often-read email, she was surprised to see what kind of fuss became of her review.  She contacted me to thank me for supporting her and was glad that she missed all of the drama.  I’m SO glad to hear from her and know she is OK.  I was concerned but hoped something like this was the case.

• Finally I want to say a huge thank you to the authors and fellow reviewers that reached out to me during this mess.  I was stunned, surprised and humbled by your overwhelming support.  I’ve gained a lot of respect for you all and I’m glad to know that some of my favorite authors are on my team and I’ve also discovered a few new ones that I want to support.  It was a crazy ordeal and I couldn’t have asked for kinder people to be in my corner.

Books You Should Read | Outlander Series

I can’t recall when I finally picked up the Outlander series and began reading it, but I want to say in was 2000 or so. A friend whom is also an avid reader had told me about the series and it piqued my interest as I’ve always loved time travel novels.  I think it all goes back to my love affair with Christopher Pike so I’ve always loved anything with a touch of fantasy in it.  I remember going into Walden Bookstores and having a dickens of a time locating this novel because I was under the assumption it was a romance but it was filed with sci-fi.  I don’t miss those days of scouring book shelfs trying to find a novel (or waiting to get the next in a series ordered in to your store!).  Thank god for Amazon and Kindle.  I digress.  When I picked this book up (and the next 2 in the series) I was a bit intimidated by their immense size.  This is NOT a small book by any means.  I am a fairly fast reader but I even was a bit overwhelmed by the mass of this book.  However I quickly found out that the pace is so fast you never feel like this book is dragging.

Outlander is the first novel of the series and sets up the framework quite nicely but I also feel it could easily be a stand alone novel.  Her later novels in the series do leave you hanging a bit at the end but I’ve always loved how this novel finishes and doesn’t leave one completely in the dark.  The series is currently up to 7 books and the next will be released next year (which I am anxiously awaiting for as the last ending was a cliffhanger).  If you start this series, make sure you have time eked out in your reading schedule because I almost promise you that you will not want to stop at one.

This series follows Jamie, a Scottish Highlander from the 1700’s and Claire, a time traveler from the 1940’s.  I will try not to spoil too much for you (a HUGE pet peeve of mine when reading online reviews) but I will say there are a few other people that the story involves as the series progresses.  When someone told me what this book was about I kind of rolled my eyes thinking it’d be too over the top but I must say this is one of the best written fantasies I’ve ever read.  The time travel in this book is completely believable and makes sense in a way.  Since I love history, I also enjoy how Gabaldon intertwines history with Jamie and Claire.  It’s hard to describe but trust me when I say it’s well done and you’ll feel like you were there alongside them for much of the major events.

If you like Outlander, you also may want to check out Diana Gabaldon’s Lord John series which is a series of novels about a minor character from the Outlander series (none but The Scottish Prisoner involve Jamie but he is referenced here and there).  These novels are MUCH quicker reads than their Outlander brothers.  I also would recommend Sara Donati’s Into the Wilderness series as well.  There are a few minor characters that are in the Wilderness and Outlander novels and they have a lot of similar elements (I believe the authors are friends).  This series just wrapped up last year and I was so sad to see it go.  That being said, it’s one of my favorite endings of a series ever.

The Jelly Bean Incident

I am not much of a candy eater, which is ironic because my Dad was a total candy addict.  I go through spurts – that usually coincide with the letters p, m and s – where I’ll eat a few bites of something but generally I’m a potato-chip-junkie and I pass over the candy.  We still have a bowl of Halloween candy left!  It’s kind of funny, anyone that comes to our house always hits the candy bowl because the good stuff is always still there.  It’s not like most houses where the only candy left is the crap you would only eat after the good stuff is taken or ingest after the age of 70.  Honestly, I don’t even know why we have a candy bowl since neither of us ever eat it.  LOL.

However at Easter I usually pick up a few choice bags of candy.  Cadbury Mini Eggs are the one thing that I adore and will sit and eat the entire bag of if given the option (and lack of willpower).  I also like jelly beans.  I think the jelly beans are related to memories more than like though.  My Dad had this hilarious way of eating jelly beans.  He’d eat them in color order.  He’d start with his favorite color (red) and work his way down from there, in order, until the bag was only pink and white jelly beans.  This was the good ol’ Brach kind – this was way before they fancified jelly beans.  Every time I see a bag, I think of Dad.  So I picked up a bag of the Starbust “FaveReds” jelly beans because a) I went to the store hungry, b) I was sick and c) I was hungry.  I’ve had them on my desk since then and munch on a bite or two every now and again – typically when I’m hungry and waiting for the hubs to get home.

Friday I was hitting the sugar lows waiting for the hubs to get home from work and I figured I’d eat a couple bites of jelly beans to tide me over until dinner.  I took about two bites and somehow swallowed the suckers nearly whole.  Of course they went down the wrong pipe and I coughed them up when they hit my lugs.  Let me tell you, that was a fun feeling!  I then got to reswallow the whole mess and felt the scraping – again! – the entire way down my throat.  Oh, my god.  It burned, it hurt and it brought tears to my eyes.  Then, I got the lovely taste of iron.  Yes.  I managed to slice and dice my throat on two jelly beans.

Meanwhile, my husband’s friend Paul decided we should all go out to dinner so wanted ME to make reservations.  So I had to call and gasp out our reservations.  My throat bled for about an hour and that dinner??  I don’t recommend following the jelly bean incident up with spicy sausage.

I finally can swallow easier today but it still feels sore.  I have a feeling though I’m going to be teased about this one for years.  Already my husband is saying. “you are the one that nearly died on a jelly bean.”  Great.  LOL

Dad’s Awesome Meatloaf

After my Mom died (the main cook in the house unless it was cooked on the grill) I was somewhat concerned about what dinner would be like. When Mom was sick generally our meals consisted of take-out or frozen meals. However I was stunned when it turned out that my Dad was an awesome cook – MUCH better than my Mom. Mom’s cooking was okay but to be quite frank, there are few meals of hers that I miss (I DO miss her potato soup though, yum). Dad turned out to be an amazing cook and I’m still kicking my own self for not getting him to write down more of his recipes. I really miss one of the most simple meals of his – hamburger gravy over mashed potatoes. I’ve found a few recipes but none have quite hit it. Anyway, one of my favorite recipes of his is his meatloaf and it’s often the meal I make to wow guests. Most people – my husband included – turn their nose up when you say “meatloaf” and start grumbling like Randy did in “A Christmas Story” but this meatloaf will change your mind! I also tend to make this meal when I’m missing my Dad. It sounds weird but it makes him seem closer whenever I make meals of his.

This was my first experience with the step-by-step recipe thing so I apologize for the suckiness of the photos. It was dark and storms were rolling through so the light was just not great but I was on a mission to take pictures of this so I persevered. Then the card got corrupted so half the photos I took are missing. Fun fun!

Assemble the cast of characters.  Here we have the extensive ingredients that I promise you anyone can get a hold of.  Salt, pepper, dry mustard, bread crumbs, tomato juice, hamburger, onions, ketchup, brown sugar and eggs.

Personally I go full bore with it all and screw the fat content.  I have tried to make this “healthier” with turkey burger and it just didn’t taste right.

As far as substitutions, that’s your own perogative, just don’t come slamming me for bad meatloaf when you didn’t use anything listed LOL.  Those reviews always crack me up on food sites, well I did this this and this different and it tasted like crap so I’m giving you one star!  Hilarious.

I use premade breadcrumbs in a can but you can use your own homemade kind if you have that kind of patience or cracker crumbs.  I’d probably nix the salt if you use cracker crumbs with salt on top.

I’ve also used V8 in lieu of tomato juice and it’s been fine.

Preheat your oven to 350.  I always forget this but thankfully the oven doesn’t take too long to preheat.  Oops.

Mix together hamburger, bread crumbs and juice.  If you are pansy about getting your hands dirty/germs you may not want to read further but after trying a few different utensils I discovered that using your hands to mix the meat is the easiest way.  Just wash them please?

Once done smashing this all together, it should look like this.  Again, apologies for sucky pictures.

Next beat the eggs together (if you need pictures on this you’re screwed… and kind of scaring me) and dump them into the mixture along with the salt, pepper and diced onions.  I buy prediced onions because I’m allergic to onions and turn into one big hive if I attempt to handle them and god help me if I try to cut them (my face swells up).  My Dad used to use one small yellow onion and I decided that’s about 1/4 cup or so.  Use your best judgement.  Again, mash with hands or pansy it with some sort of magic stirring stick.

Oh and yes, even though I’m allergic to onions I still put them in this.  Cooked onions don’t bother me as much as raw so I put up with the discomfort for this meal.

Toss the meat mixture into a loaf pan.  You shouldn’t need to grease it.  It will look like this.  Apologies about my back splash, it’s a mess.  Hubs and I can’t agree on what to do for the back splash so for the past 5 years it’s remained plain paint which doesn’t wipe off so easily.  One of these days, he’s going to come home and I’m going to have tiled it all while he was at work.  If you’re curious he wants only slate tile, I want slate + tumbled glass detailed.  I will win.  Someday.

Toss that sucker in the oven for 1 hour.

Next is the good stuff. I double the recipe because a thin glaze doesn’t cut it for us, if I could I would just eat the glaze. You’re going to combine ketchup, brown sugar and dry mustard to make this good stuff. I use a fork to combine because it makes it easier to get the lumps out. Lumps are OK though and I usually don’t manage to get them all out when I’m using brown sugar that isn’t new.

Pull out the meatloaf which will look disgusting and be bubbling. No matter what the fat content is on the meat, there’s always excess fat. If you wait a couple minutes it usually will start to congeal and I scrape some of it off. That’s as close to “diet” as I get with this stuff.

Slap on the glazing.  Keep in mind this is a double batch so if you go with the recipe amount you won’t have this much on top.  Put it back in for another 30 minutes.

Then the house starts to smell REALLY good.

Make your side dishes and hopefully time everything right so that everything is done around the same time.

I rarely do that element well.

Then pull out the loaf and cut into slices.  It will be VERY moist so it may crumble a bit if you don’t let it sit for 5-10 minutes.  I rarely can wait so mine is always a mess.

There is my plate of food!  See what I mean about the meatloaf falling apart?  I did have a picture of the meatloaf COOKED in the pan but thank you mr Sandisk for failing me so you’ll have to deal with this shot instead, sorry!

Dad’s Meatloaf

1 1/2 pounds hamburger
2/3 cup bread crumbs
1 cup tomato juice
2 large eggs, beaten
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup onion, diced

3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon dry mustard

1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
2.  Combine meat, breadcrumbs, and juice by hand until well combined.
3.  Add eggs, pepper, salt, and onion and combine until mixed.
4.  Put in loaf pan and cook for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
5.  Combine brown sugar, ketchup, and dry mustard.
6.  Place on top of meatloaf after 1 hour of cooking and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
7.  Double check for doneness and enjoy!!!

Reading Like a Fiend

I am a *huge* reader, have been since I was a child.  I honestly can’t remember the last time that I was not beginning, in the middle of or ending a book.  Even before I could read words I remember carrying around picture books and even some non picture books and leafing through them before I fell asleep.  I remember a whole world opening to me though when I learned to read and I found out what the words were in “The Monster at the End of This Book” (no, no one read to be before bed, that’s another story for another day).  It’s a rare night that I don’t at least read ONE page of a book prior to falling asleep.  I think it has a lot to do with the fact that both of my parents read a lot so I grew up thinking reading was essential to life.

Two years ago, I decided for my 30th birthday to buy myself a Kindle.  I had been kicking around the idea but I just did not like the design of the original release.  However after seeing a friend’s Kindle while on vacation, I decided that I would LOVE the new one and preordered it immediately upon returning home.  I really was worried that I would not like it compared to my real books and that I would find it lacking but the idea of being able to download the next book in a series on a whim rather than waiting around for a) it to be delivered or b) it to be in stock at the local bookstore is what sold me in.  I like instant gratification and too often I would think of a book I’d love to read but have to wait days or weeks to get my hands on it.

It was love at first read.

Now I am proud to be a Kindle owner (I now have the Kindle Keyboard which I purchased last year) and I have been known to rebuy books that I own already in paperback because I love reading on the Kindle that much.  It’s SO easy to hold.  I toss the sucker in a Ziplock bag and can take it to the beach, pool or read it in my tub.  I have a cover that has a light attached to it for easy night reading.

My newest found love that has to do with reading is Goodreads.  Are you a member? if so, we should be friends.  I have a problem sometimes remembering if I’ve read a book or sometimes I forget details from a book and it’s driving me crazy.  I’ve been keeping track of books I’ve read since 2008 on here and it’s been fun to not only see how much I read in a year (130 or so, give or take) but to also read reviews and see what my friends are reading.  It’s kind of like Facebook for readers.

I doubt that I’ll ever have any sort of theme here but I think I’d like to share books and book reviews here from time to time.  I read just about everything depending on my mood.  I do tend to stay away from fantasy and sci-fi though (I’m one of those that have not read Harry Potter yet) but it doesn’t mean that I won’t rule it out.  Of course I’m always game for a recommendation so hit me up if you’ve got one!
